Artis Library

The ARTIS-Library finds its roots in the Royal Zoological Society as the library ‘Natura Artis Magistra’ in 1838. In 1868, the library moved to a building specially designed to house the natural history collection, where it still resides today under administration by the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Currently consisting of approx. 16,000 prints, 90,000 illustrations, 200 manuscripts and further archives and documentation systems of biologists, knowledge of nature all over the world is collected and can be studied here.
